Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd September 2024: Prasad Gajanan Gosavi, a senior correspondent for the news portal ‘Policenama’ in Pune, passed away yesterday. He had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Nigdi following a serious accident that occurred in July. After his death, Prasad’s organs were donated, making him the first journalist to do so. His heart was successfully transplanted into another army man within hours of his death. Additionally, his lungs, liver, kidney, and two eyes were donated, benefiting a total of five patients.

Prasad’s two-wheeler was involved in a severe accident near Khadki Railway Station on 22nd July while he was returning home from work. He sustained serious brain and leg injuries and was treated at a private hospital in Nigdi. Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors faced significant challenges in saving his life. As the sensation in his leg was lost, they decided to amputate his right leg to preserve his life. Despite this, Prasad’s condition worsened due to a brain haemorrhage, and he was ultimately declared brain dead.

In the face of this tragic situation, Prasad’s family chose to donate his organs. A Green Corridor was established from Pimpri to Pune to transport his heart, escorted by police and army personnel. All the doctors and staff at DY Patil Hospital paid their respects to Prasad. His heart was then successfully transplanted at the Southern Command Hospital in Pune. Following the organ donation, Prasad’s body was returned to his family and cremated at the Nigdi crematorium in a sombre atmosphere.

Prasad Gosavi will be remembered as the first journalist to donate his organs after death, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and compassion.
