Pune: Elderly Man’s Snack Craving Costs Him Rs 5 Lakh as Thieves Swipe Jewellery While He Eats

Hadapsar, 31st August 2024: An elderly man encountered a restaurant while returning home after reclaiming jewellery he had pawned at the bank. He wanted to eat vada pav and made the costly mistake of hanging the jewellery bag from the handle of his bike. Thieves stole the bag, which contained jewellery worth Rs 5 Lakh, while it was hanging from the bike. The incident occurred near the Shewalewadi PMPML Bus Stand in Hadapsar on Thursday (29th August).

A senior citizen has filed a complaint at Hadapsar Police Station. The jewellery in question had been pawned at a bank in Uruli Kanchan. On Thursday, he reclaimed the jewellery by paying off the loan. Afterwards, he and his wife were heading towards Manjri on a two-wheeler.

Seeing a restaurant in the Shewalewadi area and feeling hungry, the elderly man stopped the bike by the side of the road. They went to a nearby restaurant to eat vada pav, leaving the jewellery bag attached to the bike’s handle. During this time, the thieves took advantage of their absence and stole the jewellery bag. Police Constable Shrikant Pandule is investigating the case.
