New Delhi, 26th August 2024: Elon Musk, the owner of X, has aimed at Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook and Instagram, following the recent arrest of Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram. Musk claims that similar allegations of child exploitation levied against Telegram also apply to Zuckerberg’s platforms, yet the Facebook founder remains unpunished. Musk argues that Zuckerberg’s close ties to governments allow him to evade scrutiny while serious issues, such as child exploitation, persist on Instagram. This controversy has surfaced in light of Durov’s arrest, which has drawn widespread attention.

In response to a user, Musk stated that while governments justify Durov’s arrest, they ignore the child exploitation issues arising from Instagram and Facebook. He highlighted previous reports of exploitation on Instagram, underscoring that Zuckerberg operates under governmental influence, which shields him from arrest. Musk emphasized, “Zuckerberg is openly roaming around,” suggesting a double standard in how law enforcement approaches different tech leaders.

Musk further criticized Zuckerberg for sharing user data with governments, arguing that this collaboration decreases oversight from authorities. He stated, “Because he already caved into censorship pressure. Instagram has a massive child exploitation problem, but no arrest for Zuck, as he censors free speech and gives governments backdoor access to user data.”

The situation escalated when Pavel Durov was arrested at Bourget Airport near Paris on Saturday evening. Local French media reported that Durov’s detainment stemmed from a lack of moderation on Telegram, which allowed criminal activities to occur unchecked. Durov could face up to 20 years in prison for failing in content moderation, and the investigation is still ongoing.
