Pune: Two Arrested After Assaulting Assistant Police Inspector with Koyta in Hadapsar

Hadapsar, 26th August 2024: A police officer who attempted to mediate a fight in Pune was attacked with a koyta, resulting in injuries. The attacker, a notorious criminal with a record, fled after assaulting the Assistant Police Inspector. Pune Police’s Crime Branch successfully detained him and his accomplice in the Solapur area.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul Singh, also known as Rahulya Ravindra Singh Bhond (19, resident of Hadapsar), and Nihal Singh Mannu Singh Taak (19, resident of Hadapsar).

An argument had broken out between two bike riders in the Sasane Nagar area of Hadapsar around 4 PM yesterday. During the altercation, accused Nihal Singh and Rahul Singh supported one of the riders and were armed with a koyta. Assistant Police Inspector Ratnadeep Gaikwad, who was passing by, noticed the incident and intervened. Gaikwad attempted to disarm Nihal Singh but was seriously injured when Nihal Singh threw the koyta, striking him on the forehead. Nihal Singh and his accomplice fled the scene.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) R. Raja rushed to the scene, while API Gaikwad was taken to a hospital. Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar visited Gaikwad and instructed his officers to track down the accused. Both Rahul Singh and Nihal Singh were eventually arrested in Solapur by Crime Branch.
