Daring Rescue: Pune Fire Brigade Saves Two Stranded in Mutha River Near Shivane
Pune, 24th August 2024: In a dramatic rescue operation, two people stranded in the Mutha River near Shivane were safely rescued by the fire brigade today. The incident occurred at around 4:28 PM near Dangat Patil Estate, Kaman No. 1, when the control room received information that two individuals were trapped on an island in the middle of the river.
Fire tenders were immediately dispatched from Navale, Warje, Sinhagad road fire stations, and PMRDA’s Nanded City fire station to the spot. Upon arrival, the fire brigade personnel quickly assessed the situation and realized the seriousness of the incident. The two youths were stranded on the island, surrounded by rapidly rising water. Without delay, the rescue operation was initiated.
The rescue teams faced numerous challenges, including the increasing water flow and the rocky terrain along the riverbank. Despite these obstacles, the firefighters pressed on, using boats and ropes to reach the island. After two hours of relentless effort, they successfully reached the stranded youths, who were visibly shaken by the ordeal.
To ensure their safe return, the fire brigade used a combination of boats and ropes to guide the youths back to safety. During the operation, the water discharge from Khadakwasla Dam was temporarily reduced to assist the rescue efforts.
Fire Chief Devendra Potfode oversaw the rescue operation, providing guidance to the officers and firefighters on the ground. The operation also received support from the Water Resources Department, the Municipal Disaster Room, the police department, and local citizens, whose collective efforts contributed to the successful rescue.
