Shikhar Dhawan Announces Retirement from Domestic and International Cricket
New Delhi, 24th August 2024: Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from both domestic and international cricket. On Saturday, the left-handed batsman shared an emotional message on social media, revealing his decision to step away from the game. Dhawan last represented India in the ODI series against Bangladesh in 2022 but lost his spot to younger players like Shubman Gill.
In a heartfelt video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Dhawan expressed gratitude to his fans and the cricketing community for their support throughout his career. He reflected on his journey, stating, “Looking back, I see cherished memories and a new life ahead. Playing for India was a dream come true, and I’m thankful to my family, childhood coaches, and teammates for their support. It’s time to turn the page.”
Dhawan officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, sharing that he feels at peace with his decision. He emphasized that while he won’t play for his country again, he is grateful for the opportunity he had.
Throughout his career, Dhawan played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is for India. He scored 6793 runs in ODIs at an average of 44.11 and accumulated 2315 runs in Tests with an average of 40.61.
