Shivshahi Bus Driver Arrested for Drink-Driving After Collision in Pune

Wanowrie, 23rd August 2024: In Pune, many drink-driving cases are surfacing once again after having declined for a period. Recently, in a busy area, a Shivshahi bus driver was found to be under the influence and collided with a car, leading to a confrontation between the bus driver and the car driver. The bus driver has been arrested.

The bus driver has been identified as Mahesh Shivaji Pund, aged 32, a resident of Ahmednagar. Ram Madhukar Chite, aged 35, a resident of Jalgaon, has filed a complaint with the Wanowrie Police Station.

According to police reports, Pund is a bus driver at the Pimpri Chinchwad bus depot of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). He had departed with a Shivshahi bus carrying 13 passengers from Swargate Depot. At Golibar Maidan Chowk, the bus collided with a car, leading to a confrontation between the accused Pund and the car driver. The police detained Pund and took him to Sassoon General Hospital for a medical test, where he was found to be drunk. A case has been registered against Pund at the Wanowrie Police Station for driving under the influence (DUI) and endangering the lives of passengers and others on the road. The investigation is ongoing.
