Pune, 19th August 2024: Instagram is preparing to roll out a new feature that will drastically alter the appearance of user profiles. The company is currently testing a feature that changes the traditional square grid layout to a vertical format, similar to the one used for Reels. Some beta users have already received this update, and it is expected to be available to all users in the coming days. Instagram’s decision to introduce this feature is aimed at enhancing the user experience by better accommodating the vertical photos and videos that are now more commonly uploaded.
According to reports, Instagram is planning to overhaul the grid layout on profiles, replacing the square format that has been in place since the platform’s launch. Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, confirmed the ongoing testing of the vertical grid in a post on his Instagram story. He highlighted that this change would eliminate the need for users to crop their photos and videos to fit the square grid, as the new vertical grid will display media in its original format. This update is expected to significantly improve how content is presented on user profiles.
Although there is no official confirmation on the exact rollout date, the feature’s availability to select beta users suggests that a broader launch could be imminent. This would mark one of the most significant changes to Instagram profiles since the platform’s inception. The square layout has been a defining feature of Instagram profiles, and its replacement with a vertical grid underscores the platform’s shift towards embracing modern content formats. With the majority of Instagram’s content being vertical, this update could provide a more seamless and visually appealing experience for users.
