Pune: Woman Dies After Being Electrocuted in Waterlogged Kondhwa Lane

Kondhwa, 19th August 2024: A 32-year-old woman lost her life after being electrocuted while walking through a waterlogged street in Kondhwa, Pune. The victim, Kalpana Ramesh Vishwakarma, was returning home from work when the incident occurred.

Kalpana had just finished her day as a domestic worker and was making her way back home when she entered a flooded lane following heavy rainfall. “Our investigation revealed that the electrical meters of an old building in the area were partially submerged in water. Exposed wires had electrified the water,” stated Police Inspector Mansingh Patil of the Kondhwa police station.

The fatal incident took place around 5:30 pm in Bhagyoday Nagar, Kondhwa. According to eyewitness Haji Feroze Shaikh, Kalpana received a severe electric shock and collapsed immediately.

Officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway. “We have initiated a probe to determine the cause of the electrocution,” a spokesperson from MSEDCL said.

The fire brigade received an emergency call from a resident, prompting a quick response from their team. Despite their efforts, Kalpana was pronounced dead at the scene.
