Pune, 17th August 2024: The 17-year-old who was involved in a fatal accident in May, where two young IT engineers lost their lives, has completed a 15-day court-mandated safe driving training program at the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO). The training was part of the conditions imposed by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) following the incident.

Sources revealed that the teenager, who is the son of a prominent city-based builder, visited the RTO discreetly for his training sessions. “His training concluded around 22-23 days ago. We adhered strictly to the instructions provided by the court, ensuring his privacy throughout the process,” an RTO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated.

The accident occurred in the early hours of May 19 in Kalyaninagar when the teenager, returning home to Wadgaon Sheri after partying at two pubs in Mundhwa, lost control of his Porsche Taycan and collided with a bike, killing both riders instantly.

The JJB granted the minor bail with specific conditions, including writing a 300-word essay on road safety and undergoing a 15-day training program on the same topic at the RTO. Additionally, the RTO revoked the temporary registration of Porsche and stipulated that the teenager would not be eligible for a driving license until he turned 25.

During his time at the RTO, the teenager was exposed to various aspects of road safety and vehicle management. “We took him through the day-to-day activities at the RTO, explaining various road signs and their meanings while highlighting the critical role of road safety,” the official stated. “He was also involved in field trips during his training. The young man was focused and displayed a strong interest in grasping the practical side of safe driving and road safety rules.”

Following the JJB’s initial bail order, Pune police sought a review of the decision, leading to the teenager’s brief detention at an observation home on May 21. However, his paternal aunt petitioned the Bombay High Court, which on June 25 ordered his release from the observation home, while upholding the conditions set by the JJB, including the completion of the safe driving training.
