Youth Protesting for Reservation Rescued from Flyover Wall Near COEP in Pune

Shivajinagar, 16th August 2024: A youth protesting for reservation climbed onto the flyover’s wall near the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP). Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Fire Brigade officials successfully rescued him and brought him to safety. The youth was handed over to the police by the Fire Brigade. This incident happened earlier today.

Citizens informed the police that the youth was standing on the flyover wall near COEP as part of a protest. The police then alerted Fire Brigade officials, who promptly dispatched rescue vans from both Naidu and Kasba Peth Fire Stations to the scene. The young man paused midway on the bridge, and despite police requests to come down, he refused to comply.

Given the gravity of the situation, Fire Brigade officials engaged with him, and a team including Karim Pathan, Akash Dumble, Vijay Pinjan, Pankaj Patil, Akshay Kamble, Navnath Jedge, Santosh Argade, Sandeep Pawar, Mayur Chavan, and Pradeep Pednekar safely brought the youth down using a ladder. He was handed over to the police, who later learned that he had staged the protest in support of the Maratha reservation. The youth hails from Mahad, Raigad District.
