Camp, 16th August 2024: In a significant action by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the Assistant Public Prosecutor of Pune Cantonment (Lashkar) Court was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in exchange for facilitating the return of a car seized in connection with a criminal case. The accused has been identified as Anjala Nalini Kamalkar Navgire, aged 54.

The case traces back to June 2024, when a Maruti Swift car belonging to the complainant was seized by the Hadapsar Police after her husband was booked in a criminal case. Seeking to recover the vehicle, the complainant applied to the court, which directed the public prosecutor’s office to present their submissions regarding the application. The complainant subsequently met Assistant Public Prosecutor Anjala Navgire at her office to discuss the matter.

During this meeting, Navgire allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 to assist in the application process for the recovery of the seized car. Unwilling to comply, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.

The ACB promptly took action, conducting an initial verification of the complaint on July 26. During the verification process, it was confirmed that Navgire indeed demanded the bribe. To ensure the legitimacy of the allegations, a second verification was carried out on August 14. Following this, a trap was set at Navgire’s office in Pune Cantonment Court.

The operation culminated in Navgire being caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
