CM Sukhu Launches Himachal’s First OTT Platform: HV Cinema to Feature Regional Films

Himachal Pradesh, 10th August 2024: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu has inaugurated the state’s first Over-the-Top (OTT) platform, named HV Cinema. This platform will offer a diverse range of films from Himachal Pradesh and aim to provide global exposure to regional artists. Himalayan Velocity’s Managing Director, Pushp Raj Thakur, highlighted that Himachal Pradesh, known for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, has always been a prominent location for filmmaking.

At the launch event held at the Secretariat, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that the OTT platform represents a significant digital advancement for the state. He stated that HV Cinema would serve as a comprehensive platform for global cinema, Indian cinema, and particularly Himachali cinema. By offering a global stage for both local and international filmmakers, Himalayan Velocity seeks to present many noteworthy and underrepresented films to a broader audience.

HV Cinema will feature a wide range of content, including feature films, short films, documentaries, and animations. The platform will have a dedicated section specifically for Himachali cinema. Pushp Raj Thakur explained that the platform’s purpose is to provide Himachali filmmakers with a dedicated venue to showcase their stories to a global audience. This initiative aims not only to entertain but also to preserve and promote Himachal Pradesh’s unique cultural identity.

The platform will also curate selections from global cinema, aiming to introduce audiences to a variety of cultures, perspectives, and films from around the world. This combination of local and international films is designed to offer a rich, immersive viewing experience, bringing regional, national, and global cinema into viewers’ homes. Thakur noted that Himalayan Velocity’s mission is to empower filmmakers, giving them the visibility and recognition they deserve.
