Thieves Steal Sandalwood Tree at Gunpoint on Pune’s Prabhat Road; Case Filed with Deccan Gymkhana Police

Prabhat Road, 12th August 2024: There has been an increase in cases of sandalwood theft in Pune city. One recent incident involved thieves breaking into a bungalow on Prabhat Road and stealing a sandalwood tree at gunpoint. A woman has filed a complaint at the Deccan Gymkhana Police Station. She and her family reside in Bharati Niwas Colony on Prabhat Road, near the Karnataka High School.

The theft occurred at midnight on Saturday (10th August). While the family was asleep, they became aware of intruders in the bungalow. The woman ventured into the yard and saw seven to eight thieves cutting down a sandalwood tree with a saw. When she screamed, the robbers threatened to kill her and her family, brandishing weapons. The thieves then cut down the sandalwood tree and fled.

The frightened woman reported the incident to the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill and Assistant Commissioner Sainath Thombare visited the scene. The police have seized footage from the area’s CCTV cameras and are currently tracking the suspects. Police Sub-Inspector Shelke is investigating the case.
