Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Launches BEAT Dengue Campaign to Tackle Mosquito-Borne Diseases

Pimpri Chinchwad, 8th August 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated the BEAT Dengue Campaign to address the rising concerns of malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and Zika during the rainy season. To date, the PCMC area has reported 57 cases of dengue, 7 cases of chikungunya, and 2 cases of Zika. The two recently diagnosed Zika patients have been discharged.

The campaign aims to raise public awareness about these diseases through various platforms, including social media, malls, cinema halls, digital boards, and public announcement systems. PCMC’s Health Department is actively responding to the outbreak. Under the BEAT Dengue Campaign, 13,544 homes have been surveyed so far, with 2,470 homes checked today alone. Additionally, 11 blood samples were tested today, and 11 pregnant women showed symptoms of mosquito-borne diseases.

Dr. Laxman Gophane, Medical Officer of the Health Department at PCMC, has urged citizens to participate in the BEAT Dengue Campaign by spending one hour each week inspecting their homes for potential mosquito breeding sites and eliminating any standing water. He also advised consulting a specialist immediately if experiencing any symptoms of fever or related illnesses.
