Ambegaon, 6th August 2024: Following the tragic landslide in Malin village in July 2014, which claimed 150 lives, two villages in the same region now face a similar threat. Panchale Khurd and Pasarwadi villages in Pune’s Ambegaon taluka are at risk due to eroded land and large cracks in the ground. The local residents are calling for permanent rehabilitation from the administration and government.

In Panchale Khurd village, seven to eight feet of land have been buried, while Pasarwadi village has developed significant ground cracks. There is a growing concern that a similar disaster could occur in these areas. The villages, located in a tribal area near the Dimbhe Dam reservoir and close to Malin village, have experienced land subsidence affecting more than 45 families.

Recently, the land in these villages collapsed to knee level, intensifying the villagers’ fears. In Pasarwadi village, the soil on the hillside is slowly slipping, and the mountain slopes are showing signs of loosening. With heavy rains currently impacting the region, the risk of landslides is increasing. Local residents have urgently demanded permanent rehabilitation to address the threat.
