Pune: Lohgaon Residents Protest Outside PMC Building Over Civic Issues

Pune, 5th August 2024: Due to various issues in the Lohgaon area of Pune, residents have initiated a protest outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) building. Led by Sunil alias Master Khandve, the protest includes a hunger strike.

Lohgaon, located on the eastern border of PMC jurisdiction, faces numerous problems that residents allege are being ignored by the PMC. A 23-point list of issues faced by the citizens of Lohgaon has been compiled, and the hunger strike is being conducted outside the PMC building to draw attention to these grievances.

In 2017, the Lohgaon area became part of the PMC. Since then, residents have had numerous complaints about the civic body. They have previously reported issues such as irregular water and electricity supply.

To address the problems faced by residents of Lohgaon and Dhanori, Sunil Khandwe has initiated a hunger strike protest outside the PMC. The protest highlights 23 specific problems and demands solutions.

The list of problems includes:

1. Issues in Lohgaon and Dhanori
2. Electricity problems
3. Drainage line problems
4. Garbage problems
5. Pothole-filled roads in Lohgaon
6. Drinking water problems
7. Problems with government hospitals
8. Issues with government schools
9. Traffic problems on Lohgaon-Wagholi Road, Lohgaon-Dhanori Road, Dhanori Gaonthan, and Lohgaon-Dhanori Jakat Naka roads
10. Construction of a 30-meter road from Lohgaon-Dhanori Jakat Naka to 509 DP
11. Creation of a 10-meter bypass road near Khandve Nagar near Pune Airport boundaries
12. Construction of a road from in front of Ajeenkya DY Patil School of Engineering under Lohgaon limits to Ahmednagar Road
13. Construction of a 10-meter road near the Gurudwara walls
14. Development of a 24-meter DP road from Dhanori Gaonthan to the crematorium
15. Construction of a road from Dhanori Survey No. 4, Hotel New Mehfil Family Restaurant to Porwal Road
16. Development of a 30-meter road from Dhanori Jakat Naka to Ajeenkya DY Patil School of Engineering gate
17. Completion of roadworks near Tingre Empire
18. Connecting water tanks in Harantale, Lohgaon, and BU Bhandari in Dhanori to the Lohgaon water line to address water problems
19. Installation of 2 lakh-litre water tanks in parts of Lohgaon
20. Government hospitals in Lohgaon lack doctors and facilities
21. Installation of street lights in all areas of Lohgaon
22. Implementation of the DP Plan for Lohgaon and the other 10 newly included villages as soon as possible
23. Shortage of teachers at Pune Zilla Parishad School in Lohgaon

Khandve and other residents of the Lohgaon-Dhanori area who have joined and supported him have urged the PMC administration to address their concerns. The strike has received a positive response, and people are keen to see how the PMC handles the situation.
