Lonavala, 4th August 2024: A red alert was issued today warning of heavy rain in some areas of Pune district. Lonavala experienced heavy rainfall, causing a significant amount of water to flow from Bhushi Dam. Tourists’ plans to sit on the steps of Bhushi Dam and enjoy the rain were thwarted due to the increased water flow, making it impossible to descend the stairs. Meanwhile, the stairs of Ekvira Aai Mandir Fort in Karla transformed into a waterfall, with water overflowing from the stairs, making it difficult for devotees to reach the temple.

Following the red alert, heavy rains affected various parts of the district, including Maval, Lonavala, and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Many people flocked to Lonavala to witness its natural beauty. Today, Tiger Point, Lions Point, and Bhushi Dam were crowded with tourists, while the Ekvira Aai Mandir Fort saw a good turnout of devotees. The fort, due to the heavy rains, resembled a waterfall with rainwater cascading directly down the stairs. Water flowed from various parts of the fort, creating a waterfall effect even on the steps, forcing citizens and devotees to wade through it.

Additionally, 8,960 cusecs of water are being released from the Pavana Dam in Maval, submerging the Pavana Nagar-Kothurne Bridge on the Pavana River, which connects five to six villages.
