Mumbai, 4th August 2024: Following a red alert from the Indian Meteorological Department for heavy rainfall in Pune and its surrounding districts, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has issued crucial directives to ensure public safety and effective disaster management.

In response to the ongoing severe weather, Chief Minister Shinde has instructed the Pune Municipal Commissioner and Pune District Collector to prioritize the relocation of residents from potentially dangerous areas. These areas include locations around rivers and dams that are at risk of flooding due to the ongoing discharge of water from the Khadakwasla, Mulshi, and Pavana dams.

“The safety of our citizens is paramount,” said Chief Minister Shinde. “We must act swiftly to move people from high-risk zones and ensure they are provided with shelter, food, and clothing. We will be leveraging the expertise of the NDRF, SDRF, and Army to assist in this critical effort.”

The Chief Minister’s directives highlight specific areas that may be severely impacted, including Ekta Nagar, Dattawadi, Patil Estate, Yerwada, Shivaji Nagar Court, Kamgar Putala, Harris Bridge, Dapodi, Juni Sangvi, Kasarwadi, Pimpri Camp, Ravet, Balewadi Gavthan, and the Jupiter Hospital area in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Additionally, low-lying areas such as Kapil Malhar, Baner, Bavdhan, and Sangamwadi are also under close watch.

The administration has been advised to remain alert and coordinate closely to facilitate the evacuation process and manage relief efforts effectively. Shelter centres are being established, and all necessary arrangements are being made to provide displaced residents with adequate facilities.

Chief Minister Shinde emphasized the importance of communication, urging that the public be kept informed about any updates and instructions from the Meteorological Department. “Everyone involved must ensure that our citizens do not face unnecessary hardships during this critical time,” Shinde added.

Authorities are on high alert as they continue to monitor the situation and implement the Chief Minister’s directives to mitigate the impact of the severe weather conditions on the community.
