Pune Flood Alert: Khadakwasla Dam To Release 35,002 Cusecs Water From 11 AM; Panshet And Warasgaon Dams Also Releasing Water

Pune, 4th August 2024: The ongoing discharge from Khadakwasla Dam spillway into the Mutha River basin will be increased from 29,414 cusecs to 35,002 cusecs at 11:00 am today, with potential adjustments based on weather conditions and rainfall intensity.

The discharge of 7,703 cusecs from the Warasgaon Dam spillway into the Mutha riverbed is being increased to 9,885 cusecs at 11:00 am, along with 600 cusecs through the powerhouse, making a total of 10,485 cusecs. Changes may be made as needed.

Due to the rapid rise in the water level of the Panshet dam and heavy rainfall in the catchment area, the discharge of 8,139 cusecs from Panshet Dam will be increased by 9,900 cusecs through the spillway and 600 cusecs from powerhouse generation, totaling 10,500 cusecs at 11:00 am today.

The Khadakwasla Flood Control Room has issued a statement indicating that the discharge rate may be further modified depending on the rainfall and its impact on the dam levels.

Due to continuous rainfall and red alert in Pune district, two teams of NDRF has been deployed proactively in Balewadi, Pune and Chinchwad.

“Pune District Collector has requested for 01 Column of the Indian Army for Ekta Nagar (Sinhgad Road) to be prepositioned at Ekta Nagar as excess water is being released from Khadakwasla Dam. Army Column is moving out”, Pune Defence PRO stated in a message.

3. Warasgaon Dam:

– Capacity: 92.14%
– Water Level: 637.75 meters

4. Temghar Dam:
– Rainfall: 115 mm
– Total Rainfall: 2,856 mm
– Total Storage: 3.69 TMC
– Capacity: 99.55%
– Water Level: 706.40 meters

Overall Inflow and Storage:
– Total Inflow for all four dams: 2,391 mcft
– Total storage in the four dams: 26.99 TMC, which is 92.58% of their total capacity.
– Last year, the total storage was 24.67 TMC, which was 84.63% of capacity.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and will adjust the water release as necessary to manage the rising water levels and mitigate potential flooding risks.
