Pune, 2nd August 2024: In response to the devastating landslides in Wayanad on July 30, Malayalam actors and other celebrities have mobilized significant support for the affected individuals. Prominent actor Mammootty, alongside Minister for Industries P Rajeev and actor Ramesh Pisharody, visited an aid camp in Ernakulam, where they gathered essential supplies for the victims. Mammootty has urged the public to contribute to relief efforts, and he, along with Dulquer Salmaan, has donated substantial sums to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

The landslides, which struck Wayanad’s Chooralmala and Mundakkai regions, resulted in over 280 fatalities, numerous injuries, and widespread damage. In response to the disaster, actors including Fahadh Faasil and Nikhila Vimal have also stepped in, with Faasil contributing Rs 25 lakh and Vimal actively participating in the collection of supplies. Social media has seen widespread appeals from actors encouraging people to donate.

In light of the disaster, several Malayalam film releases scheduled for August 2 have been postponed. Films such as Manju Warrier’s “Footage,” Asif Ali and Suraj Venjaramoodu’s “Adios Amigo,” and Vinay Forrt’s “Chithini” will now have delayed premieres due to the ongoing crisis and severe weather conditions affecting the state.

Tamil actors have also shown their support by donating to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Vikram contributed Rs 20 lakh, while Suriya, Jyothika, and Karthi collectively donated Rs 50 lakh. Kamal Haasan and Vijay have used their platforms to advocate for further government aid, and Rashmika Mandanna recently added Rs 10 lakh to the fund. As the situation continues to evolve, additional support is expected in the coming days.
