Pune: Woman Duped of Over Rs 30 Lakh in Pimpri Chinchwad Online Stock Market Scam

Chinchwad, 31st August 2024: In Pimpri Chinchwad, a woman was duped of a substantial amount of money after being lured into investing in the stock market with promises of “huge returns.” The woman invested over ₹30 lakh in this scheme. The incident, which took place online in Chinchwad, occurred between 23rd February and 12th April of this year.

A 47-year-old woman has filed a complaint with Chinchwad Police Station. The police have registered a case against three mobile number holders, one WhatsApp group admin, and seven bank account holders, totaling eleven individuals whose names and details are not yet known.

A case under IPC Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) has been filed, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act of 2000.

According to police reports, on 23rd February 2024, the woman was contacted by individuals who encouraged her to invest in shares. She was added to a WhatsApp group via a link. After investing ₹30,93,640 with promises of substantial returns, she did not receive any of the promised money. After months of unsuccessful follow-ups, she approached the police.
