Navi Mumbai/Pune, 29th July 2024: A contract dispute involving the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has come to light, with legal cases filed against various parties. This conflict has its roots in a prior altercation at a bar in Panvel, Navi Mumbai.

A case has been lodged at Khadak Police Station against a contractor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in relation to a contract dispute with the PMC’s Drainage Department. BJP activist Nirmal Harihar has alleged that the contractor threatened him with a revolver. Meanwhile, Ganesh Gite, a junior engineer in the Drainage Department, reported that BJP workers assaulted him when he went to request a gold chain weighing 1.5 tolas. This incident reportedly occurred in Ganj Peth.

The controversy dates back to an earlier incident. According to the police, on 20th July, Gite and his friend Kamlesh Kshirsagar visited Bindass Live Orchestra in Panvel, Navi Mumbai. Nirmal Harihar, an acquaintance of Gite, was also present with four friends. During the night, while everyone was dancing, Harihar allegedly pushed Gite. When Gite confronted Harihar about the push, an argument ensued.

Following this, Gite returned to Pune and filed a complaint via email at the Panvel Taluka Police Station, alleging that Harihar had snatched a gold chain worth Rs 90,000 from him. Subsequently, Gite and Harihar had another argument in Ganj Peth. The police have stated that both parties have submitted conflicting complaints. A case has now been registered against Nirmal Harihar, a resident of 231, Ganjpeth, Pune, at the New Panvel Police Station.
