Pune: PMC Issues Health Advisory to Prevent Waterborne Diseases Amid Monsoon

Pune, 26th July 2024: With the onset of rainy days, there is a possibility of waterborne diseases spreading through drinking water, posing a threat to the health of citizens. As a precautionary measure, the health department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is appealing to citizens to take the following precautions:

Precautions to be taken during monsoon:
– Use only pure water for drinking.
– Do not use water from unused wells for drinking purposes.
– Avoid consuming open or stale food.
– Boil and cool drinking water, and keep it covered.
– Wash hands thoroughly with soap after using the toilet and before eating.
– Treat symptoms such as diarrhoea, loose stools, chills, and fever promptly, and contact Pune Municipal Corporation Hospital if needed.
– Use ORS for dehydration due to diarrhoea.
– Do not defecate in the open; use toilets only.
– If you experience fever, diarrhoea, or jaundice, add chlorine liquid to drinking water before consuming it.
– Clean the underground and above-ground water tanks in your buildings. Repair any tap or valve leakages and keep the area around the tanks clean.
– Keep stored water covered and do not store it for more than five days.
– Observe one dry day per week, where drinking water containers are emptied, washed, wiped, and kept dry to prevent mosquito larvae from growing.
– In case of an epidemic outbreak, immediately inform PMC Health clinics.
