Pune, 26th July 2024: Due to the water released from the Khadakwasla Dam yesterday morning, residents of communities and settlements along the riverbanks in Pune City were the most affected. Water entered homes in areas including Sinhagad Road, Pune Railway Station, Baner, Balewadi, and Yerawada. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has arranged temporary accommodation for over 4,000 citizens in schools, temples, and marriage halls.

Heavy rainfall in the Khadakwasla Dam catchment area over the past few days led to the release of 35,000 cusecs of water into the Mutha River yesterday morning. This caused water to seep into societies, settlements, and bungalows along the river, resulting in significant damage.

Areas affected include Ekta Nagari, Jalpujan Society, Dwarka Society, Sharada Sarovar Society, Shyam Sunder, Nimbaj Nagar, and Sarita Nagari societies on Sinhagad Road. In response, the PMC has temporarily relocated flood-affected citizens to local schools, community temples, and Mangal offices. PMC officials reported that 18 PMPML buses were used to transport citizens to these temporary shelters.
