Pune District Update: Floodwater Submerges Bridges, Societies, and Roads Amidst Heavy Rains

Pune, 25th July 2024: Heavy rains have caused significant flooding and infrastructure damage across Pune, with multiple bridges and residential areas submerged under water. The District Disaster Management Cell has reported that numerous bridges, including Balewadi Bridge, Mula river Bridge, Sangam Road Bridge, Holkar Bridge, and others within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, are now under water due to the relentless downpour.

 

According to the Disaster Management Cell, several societies and localities have been severely impacted:

– Dwarka Society in Ekta Nagri, Anandnagar, Sinhagad Road

– Sharad Sarovar Society

– Sham Sundar Society

– Societies in Nimbajnagar area, Anandnagar, Sinhagad Road

– Gharkul Society in Pimpri Chinchwad

– Vrindavan Ashram Akurdi

– Vishalnagar, Jagtap Dairy Vinas Society, and Kundannagar Housing Society

 

Relief and rescue operations are currently underway in these areas. The Disaster Management Cell has confirmed that food, water, and other necessities have been arranged for those stranded in their homes due to flooding.

 

Tragically, three youths from Poolachiwadi near Bhide bridge in Deccan area of Pune —Abhishek Ghanekar, Akash Mane, and Shiva Parihar—have lost their lives due to electric shocks caused by the flooding.

 

Additional issues include:

– A fissure has caused a collapse on Lavasa Road, Mulshi, and the NDRF team has been mobilized for rescue operations.

– Cracks on the Bhimashankar-Khed road have led to its closure, affecting traffic between Khed and Bhimashankar.

– At Wadghar in Velha taluka, mountain soil has slid onto the road; however, road traffic has now resumed following removal of the debris.

– Mauje Dasve, a bungalow in Mulshi Lavasa Lake City, has suffered structural damage, and the NDRF is working to rescue three people trapped inside.

 

In response to the severe conditions, a 24-hour ban has been imposed on tourist places to ensure public safety.
