Pune, 25th July 2024: The release of water from Khadakwasla Dam has seen significant changes today due to heavy rainfall in the region. Initially, 35,574 cusecs of water have been discharged into the Mutha River basin since early this morning. However, this discharge was reduced to 15,000 cusecs at 10:30 AM.

Shweta Kurhade, Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department, stated, “Due to the ongoing heavy rainfall, we have adjusted the discharge from the dam. From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM today, we will again release 35,574 cusecs of water into the river basin. The average rainfall recorded in the dam area is 100 mm, while the ghat area has experienced over 300 mm of rainfall.”

Kurhade emphasized that the discharge levels might be adjusted further based on the rainfall amounts and their timing. She urged immediate vigilance at specific locations within the city and advised against visiting these areas.

“The Pune Municipal Corporation administration needs to remain vigilant and implement appropriate precautions to manage the situation effectively,” Kurhade added.

Citizens are advised to stay informed about further updates and avoid travel to potentially affected areas.
