Pune, 23rd July 2024: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has revealed that NCP MLA Sunil Tingre was interrogated by police for 4-5 hours following the fatal Porsche car accident involving a minor in May. Despite this questioning, Pawar asserted that Tingre had no involvement in the subsequent developments of the case.

According to a senior police officer who spoke to Punekar News, Tingre was questioned at the Crime Branch unit 4 office in Range Hills. “Tingre’s involvement was not confirmed in terms of protecting the accused or influencing the police officers,” the officer stated, but declined to provide further details.

Among those arrested in connection with the case are two individuals associated with Tingre: Ashfaq Makandar and Amar Gaikwad. These men allegedly acted as intermediaries between the doctors at Sassoon Hospital and the father of the minor accused. They facilitated the substitution of the minor’s blood samples with those of his mother to falsely indicate that he was not under the influence of alcohol. Subsequently, the minor’s parents and hospital staff were also arrested.

Tingre, representing the Vadgaon Sheri constituency in Pune, faced allegations of attempting to interfere with the investigation and protect the minor driver, especially after his visit to the Yerwada police station following the May 19 incident. Tingre has consistently denied these accusations.

However, he did not respond to calls from Punekar News for his version on questioning by the Crime Branch.

The incident involved a Porsche car driven by a 17-year-old, under the influence of alcohol, who killed two IT professionals on a motorbike in Kalyani Nagar, within the Vadgaon Sheri assembly area. The driver is the son of a well-known builder.
