Chikhali, 20th July 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched an initiative to plant one lakh bamboo plants of the Manvel (Dendrocalamus strictus) variety in Chikhali. The plantation was inaugurated today by PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh.

The bamboo saplings were planted at Jadhav Sarkar Chowk, Spine Road, Chikhali, in collaboration with the Garden Department, Tree Authority Department of PCMC, and Farmers for Forest.

PCMC aims to plant one lakh bamboo plants to green the city and create a bio-fence. In line with this goal, bamboo saplings are being planted at various locations in Pimpri Chinchwad with support from organizations such as Farmers for Forest.

This initiative aims to use bamboo plantations along Spine Road in Chikhali to address pollution from industries and vehicles and to counteract the lack of public gardens and green spaces on roads. The bamboo plantation will contribute to maintaining air quality, creating an environment-friendly atmosphere for traffic, and establishing a distinct identity for the area. Additionally, a QR code will be placed at the plantation sites, allowing citizens to scan and learn more about the project and the tree species involved.
