Fatalities and Injuries as Dibrugarh Express Derails in Gonda; Investigation Underway

Gonda, 18th July 2024: Two fatalities occurred and 35 individuals sustained injuries after eight coaches of the Dibrugarh Express derailed between Jhilahi and Motiganj railway stations in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district on Thursday.

Pankaj Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway, confirmed that a thorough investigation has been initiated into the incident.

A senior railway official mentioned that they are investigating reports suggesting a minor explosion preceding the derailment.

The Commission of Railway Safety has also launched an inquiry into the incident.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed local authorities to ensure prompt medical care for the injured.

In a statement issued through official channels, the CM’s office stated, “In response to the train derailment in Gonda district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district officials to immediately reach the site and expedite relief efforts. The Chief Minister has directed authorities to swiftly transport the injured to hospitals and ensure they receive necessary treatment. He has also expressed wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Railway authorities announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.
