Muscat, 17th July 2024: Nine crew members from MT Falcon Prestige, comprising eight Indians and one Sri Lankan, have been successfully rescued during the ongoing search and rescue operations.

An official statement indicated, “The embassy is collaborating closely with Omani authorities and the Indian Navy to manage the search and rescue mission for MT Prestige Falcon, a vessel flagged under Comoros, which capsized off the coast of Oman on July 15th. Today, nine crew members, including eight Indians, were rescued by INS Teg.”

The Indian Navy’s involvement commenced on Wednesday following a report from Oman’s maritime center on Tuesday that crew members were still unaccounted for. Among the 16 crew members aboard the cargo vessel, which capsized near the Oman coast, 13 were Indian seafarers. Official sources confirmed that the Indian embassy in Oman is actively engaged in coordinating with local authorities.

MT Falcon Prestige issued a distress call around 10 PM on July 14, prompting immediate response efforts. Sources indicated that the vessel had capsized, and continuous communication between the Indian embassy and Omani authorities is ensuring ongoing efforts in the search and rescue operation, coordinated by the Oman Maritime Security Center (OMSC).

The Indian Navy’s participation has further bolstered the search and rescue operations, underlining the collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved crew members.
