Pune: Life Imprisonment For 12 Persons In 2014 Murder Case of Social Activist Sachin Shelar

Pune, 17th July 2024: A social activist was murdered in Pune on September 27, 2014. The Pune Police arrested 12 individuals at the time. The 12 accused have been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment and fined Rs 5 lakhs each for the murder. The brutal killing occurred in the Hadapsar area 10 years ago while the victim was out with a friend.

The murdered social activist was Sachin Shelar, 32, a resident of Hadapsar. A case was registered at the Hadapsar Police Station under IPC Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 143 (member of an unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 352 (assault or use of criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation), and 120(B) (punishment for criminal conspiracy).

The individuals sentenced to life imprisonment are Amit Arjun Phalle, Anil Tukaram Somwanshi, Anil Subash Rakh, Dhanaji Ananda Vanangade, Ganesh Ramannu Chavan, Dheeraj Anil Dhagare, Anil Bapu Mane, Rajendra Raosaheb Kamble, Jagannath aka Jaggu Kerba Chougule, Babasaheb Bhagwan Harne (all residents of Hadapsar), along with Ashutosh aka Pinkya Ashok Batte Patil (resident of Uruli Kanchan), and Amit Chandrakant Ghadge (resident of Manjari).

The crime was investigated by then Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajan Bhogale, and the case was handled by Special Public Prosecutor Ujwala Pawar. Pune Court Special Judge PP Jadhav ordered the sentence.
