Pune: 17 Dengue Cases Confirmed, 1,701 Homes Found with Mosquito Larvae, Rs 8.15 Lakh Fines Collected in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pimpri Chinchwad, 17th July 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has identified dengue mosquito larvae in 1,701 houses after surveying more than 70,000 residences in the city. Notices have been sent to 602 individuals, and fines have been imposed on 242 persons and establishments, amounting to over Rs 8.15 lakh. Additionally, the Health Department has tested 2,775 people, confirming 17 dengue cases, including 7 men and 10 women.

PCMC’s Health Department is conducting a special campaign to combat dengue. Under this initiative, 72,767 establishments, including 245 tyre puncture and scrap shops, 348 construction sites, and 20 other shops, have been surveyed. As a result, 1,381 containers with dengue mosquito larvae have been cleared, Abate has been sprayed in 929 containers, and 13 tyres have been destroyed.

Dengue cases have been surfacing in Pimpri Chinchwad since June, with numbers increasing daily. Dengue symptoms include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, rash, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, mild bleeding (such as nose or gum bleeding), and a low white blood cell count. Symptoms typically appear 4-10 days after infection. PCMC officials are inspecting individuals exhibiting these symptoms. To date, 17 patients have been confirmed, including 10 women and 7 men.

PCMC has implemented precautionary measures to prevent diseases like dengue and chikungunya. Establishments are being inspected, and mosquito breeding sites are being destroyed. Awareness campaigns are being conducted in hospitals, schools, taxation and tax collection department offices, and housing societies.

The “Dengue-Free Pimpri-Chinchwad” campaign has been launched to prevent a dengue outbreak. This campaign emphasizes individual responsibility, educating the public, and preventing water accumulation. Various sanitation activities will be implemented in different areas throughout the week.

Dr. Laxman Gophane, Medical Officer of the Health Department at PCMC, stated, “The participation of citizens is important in this campaign. Prevent the spread of dengue by removing stagnant water. Citizens should collectively participate in this activity so that we will succeed in banishing dengue.”
