Mumbai, 15th July 2024: Rohit Sharma, responding to a query from the audience about his retirement plans, received a resounding cheer as he emphatically dismissed any immediate thoughts of retiring from cricket. The India captain, who led his team to victory in the T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29, announced shortly after the thrilling final against South Africa that he would no longer play T20 internationals.

Following speculation about his future in ODIs, Rohit stated, “I don’t think that far ahead,” during a public appearance at a promotional event in the US. “You will see me playing for some time.”

His response, captured on video and widely shared on social media, came after he declared following the T20 World Cup win, “This was my last (T20I) game as well.” Reflecting on his career in the shortest format, he expressed deep emotional attachment and satisfaction, adding, “I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, to win the Cup. I wanted this badly.”

Rohit Sharma bid farewell to T20 internationals as the format’s highest run-scorer, amassing an impressive 4231 runs in 159 matches. His legacy includes a record-breaking five centuries, underscoring his dominance in T20 cricket.

Days earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma’s leadership role for India in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for February-March next year.
