Cyber Thieves Target Pune Citizens with Fake Profiles of CP Amitesh Kumar
Pune, 15th July 2024: There have been numerous instances where cyber thieves exploit social media to deceive citizens. Recently, it has been revealed that individuals are being duped by cyber criminals using the name and photo of Pune City Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar. In response, Pune CP Amitesh Kumar has urged people not to engage with such WhatsApp statuses.
CP Kumar has alerted that his photo is being used as a profile picture, with perpetrators demanding money from unsuspecting individuals. He has cautioned citizens, advising them not to respond to any requests or messages soliciting funds under false pretences.
Cases of financial theft through deceptive messages and links have emerged, with cyber criminals even posing as representatives from banks. Both young IT professionals and senior citizens have fallen victim to these scams. This latest tactic of directly targeting Pune Police underscores the extent of cyber threats faced by law enforcement. Citizens must refrain from replying to suspicious messages and exercise caution to avoid becoming victims of these fraudulent schemes.
