Mumbai, 12th July 2024: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune had implemented a fine of ₹50 per day for vehicles lacking a proper fitness certificate. This action has now been suspended following multiple requests from vehicle owners, drivers, and organizations representing auto rickshaws and cabs to either waive or reduce these fines. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered the suspension of these fines until further notice.

According to Pune Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad, vehicles older than 15 years require a fitness certificate, which must be renewed periodically. Those failing to comply were subject to a ₹50 per day fine. However, during the recent monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Shinde, who oversees Maharashtra’s transport, directed that these fines be suspended until further instructions are issued.
