Pune: Kalyani Nagar Residents Highlight Garbage Dumping, Encroachments, and Drainage Failures in Meeting with PMC Commissioner

Kalyani Nagar, 11th July 2024: The Board of Managing Trustees of Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN) met with Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, IAS, today to address various pressing issues affecting the residents of Kalyani Nagar. During the meeting, TSKN submitted formal letters detailing several concerns and seeking prompt redressal.

Key Issues Discussed:

1. Metro Medians Used for Garbage Dumping: The team highlighted the problem of metro medians being misused as garbage dumping sites, which is causing significant hygiene and sanitation issues.

2. Encroachments and Illegal Commercial Constructions: Concerns were raised about the increasing number of encroachments and unauthorized commercial constructions in the area.

3. Storm Water Drainage System Failure: The failure of the storm water drainage system in central and south Kalyani Nagar, specifically in Lanes 6, 13, Fortaleza, and Sky One, was discussed, with residents facing severe flooding issues during rains.

4. Proliferation of Hawkers on Footpaths: The team pointed out the growing number of hawkers and other businesses encroaching on footpaths, hindering pedestrian movement.

5. Broken Footpaths: The deteriorated condition of footpaths was raised as a significant concern, necessitating urgent repairs.

6. Misuse of Dugad Plot on Central Avenue: The Dugad plot is being misused by several businesses, causing a nuisance with illegal stalls.

7. Failure of Sanitation and Hygiene Routines: Issues related to the collection of garden waste and construction debris (rada roda), a reported shortage of staff, and the stoppage of night sweeping routines were brought to the commissioner’s attention.

8. Garbage Burning and Air Quality Deterioration: Frequent instances of garbage burning and the resulting poor air quality were also highlighted.

Dr. Bhosale acknowledged the issues and assured the TSKN representatives that these matters would be addressed promptly. The Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar has planned follow-up meetings to track the progress of these issues and ensure that effective measures are implemented.

The residents of Kalyani Nagar hope that their concerns will be resolved soon, leading to a cleaner, safer, and more organized neighborhood.
