Lonavala, 11th July 2024: Police have been deployed within the limits of Valvan Village to enforce the ban on heavy vehicle entry on the national highway passing through Lonavala city. Khandala Highway Police and Maharashtra Security Force personnel have been present at the location for the past two days. The citizens of Lonavala hope that this system will be permanently implemented.

To address the problem of traffic congestion and accidents on the national highway passing through Lonavala city, the entry of all types of heavy vehicles has been banned on the Mumbai-Pune National Highway between 6 AM and 10 PM. Although the Pune District Collector issued a notification on 14th June 2024, it was brought to the Collector’s attention last week that the order was not being enforced. He warned the highway police to implement the order. Lonavala city police and highway police must ensure that heavy vehicles do not pass through Lonavala city, and they are also taking punitive action against all heavy vehicles entering Lonavala.

To inform motorists about this order, large boards need to be installed at several points from the Varsoli Toll Plaza to Valvan village. Citizens believe that the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited and IRB Company should support this system.
