Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Raid Hinjawadi Restaurant for Illegal Hookah Sale

Hinjawadi, 9th July 2024: Pimpri Chinchwad Police have taken action against a restaurant in Hinjawadi for selling illegal hookah. Hookah materials worth more than Rs 24,000 have been seized in this raid. This action was taken at Thekka Restro & Lounge on Sunday (7th July) at 11 PM.

Police Constable Kailas Kengle reported this incident to Hinjawadi Police. Hinjawadi Police have registered a case against Arvind Singh Chemal Singh (age 27, resident of Hinjawadi Phase 1) and hotel owner and operator Vaibhav Pralhad Warade (age 35, resident of Akurdi) under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 287 (negligent conduct to fire or combustible matter), and 3(5) (general explanations), along with relevant sections of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply, and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA, 2003) and related rules.

According to police reports, the accused seated customers together to eat and drink hookah without creating a separate zone for hookah in their restaurant. Hookah was given to customers to smoke. After receiving information about this, Hinjawadi Police took action, seized goods worth Rs 24,198, and registered a case against both individuals. Police Sub Inspector Dnyaneshwar Jhol is investigating this matter further.
