Pune: Man Gets Life Sentence, Rs 3 Lakh Fine for Murder Over Land Transaction in Mulshi

Mulshi, 8th July 2024: Pune district court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3 lakh for stabbing a person over a land purchase and sale transaction in Mauje Valane in Mulshi Taluka. The order also stipulates that Rs 2 lakh from the fine should be given to the wife of the deceased. Additional Sessions Judge PP Jadhav delivered the verdict.

The convicted accused is identified as Suresh alias Balasaheb Bapurao Satpute (age 64, resident of Bavdhan, Pune). The deceased is Vilasrao Pundalikrao Sabane (age 51). His wife, Vidya Sabane, had filed a complaint at Paud Police Station, Pune rural police. The incident occurred on 7th November 2019.

According to police, Vilasrao Sabane was informed by a friend that Suresh Satpute, who lives in Mauje Valane, had land for sale. The Sabane couple accompanied the accused to inspect the land. Liking what they saw, they proceeded with the transaction. The land was priced at Rs 9.10 lakh. Sabane gave the accused Rs 1 lakh in cash and Rs 4 lakh for the transaction, agreeing to pay the remainder annually after the purchase.

On 7th November 2019, the accused called Sabane to inform him that the space was ready for inspection. Satpute requested Sabane to bring a car, as he did not have one. Following that, when Vidya Sabane called her husband, his phone was switched off, and the accused also stopped answering his phone. Vidya filed a missing person report at the Deccan Gymkhana Police Station. Meanwhile, the Paud Police found a body in Valane, which was later identified by Sabane’s wife and son as that of Vilasrao Sabane.

Vidya Sabane filed a complaint against the accused, leading to the court’s conviction and sentencing of life imprisonment for Suresh Satpute. Public Prosecutor Namdev Taralgatti argued the case. Police Sub-Inspector Shrikant Jadhav (currently at Jejuri Police Station, Pune Rural) conducted the investigation.
