Pune: Five Arrested Following Assault on Pimpri Chinchwad Policemen During Theft Probe

Shirgaon, 8th July 2024: In a troubling incident, five individuals have been arrested for assaulting two policemen from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) during a theft investigation. The assault took place yesterday at 2 PM in Salumbre, Maval Taluka, where one policeman sustained serious head injuries after being struck with an iron rod and kicked. The other officer was physically pushed and assaulted. Police Constable Ali Abdul Shaikh, who reported the incident at Shirgaon Police Station, identified the accused as Naeem Shah (23), Naseem Shah (35), Kalim Shah (25), Naseem Mudahi (24), and Kalim Mudahi (18), all residents of Godumbre, Maval, and originally from Uttar Pradesh.

The arrests were made under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including unlawful assembly, rioting, and assault to deter a public servant from his duty. According to reports, Constable Shaikh and his colleague, Constable Anil Niravane, visited a junk shop owned by the accused to investigate stolen items. Despite identifying themselves as police officers, they faced verbal abuse from the accused. The situation escalated when one of the accused, Naeem Shah, attacked Constable Shaikh with an iron rod, causing serious injuries. The other accused joined in, assaulting both officers. Police Sub Inspector Lohekar from Shirgaon Police Station is overseeing the ongoing investigation into the incident.
