Farm Laborer Fatally Stabbed in Pune Over Alleged Work Dispute

Pune, 8th July 2024: In Mandvi Budruk village near Khadakwasla, Pune, a farm laborer was fatally stabbed reportedly because he did not report to work. Bharat Laxman Walhekar, aged 55 and residing in Mandvi Budruk, originally from Raigad, was identified as the victim. Sanjay Hindurao Paigude, aged 50, a resident of Mandvi Budruk, has been arrested by Haveli police, with a case also registered against Sachin Nathu Paigude, aged 45.

According to police reports, the Walhekar couple worked on the farm of Vilas Dinkar Paigude and lived on his premises. Sachin Nathu Paigude is the nephew of Vilas Dinkar Paigude. On 3rd July, Sachin allegedly confronted Bharat Walhekar when he didn’t show up for work on Paigude’s farm for several days, choosing instead to work for another farmer. An argument ensued, during which Sachin verbally abused and physically assaulted Bharat, ultimately stabbing him in the head with a Koyta. Anusaya, Bharat’s wife, attempted to intervene but was also injured in the altercation.

Later that night, around 9:30 PM, Anusaya took Bharat to the hospital. Sachin, accompanied by Sanjay Paigude, drove towards them in a car and struck the couple. Both Bharat and Anusaya were admitted to Sassoon General Hospital, where Bharat succumbed to his injuries before receiving treatment.

The incident prompted the police to investigate and register a murder case. Sanjay Paigude has been arrested, while efforts are underway to arrest Sachin. Assistant Police Inspector Sagar Pawar is leading the investigation into the case.
