The victim’s 70-year-old husband, a retired colonel, filed a police complaint on Friday afternoon. The couple resides in the Camp area.

Describing the incident, the complainant said, “It was Father’s Day on June 16, and we had gone to a restaurant on East Street to celebrate. My daughter, my wife, and I enjoyed a meal and then stepped out. As my wife and I crossed the road with my daughter following us, two men on a motorcycle snatched my wife’s purse. I was walking a few steps ahead and, when I turned back, I saw my wife had fallen on the road.”

“An autorickshaw stopped at the scene, and two women passengers helped my wife to our car. We then took her to the hospital,” he added.

Sub Inspector Mahendra Kamble of the Cantonment police provided additional details: “The 62-year-old victim is still admitted to the hospital with a fractured right hand and cuts on her head.”

“After the incident, the retired army officer informed the police about the robbery, but the FIR was not registered immediately,” Kamble noted. “The spot where the crime took place has dense greenery and low visibility.”

Kamble further explained, “The pillion rider on the bike grabbed the purse with such force that the woman fell, sustaining injuries. The suspects fled with cash, a cellphone, and other items totaling Rs 16,000.”

“The two men escaped towards Indira Gandhi Chowk on East Street. Since there is no CCTV surveillance at the crime scene, we are reviewing footage from nearby locations and commercial establishments to identify the suspects,” Kamble said.
