New Delhi, 18th June 2024: The Supreme Court emphasized the need for a meticulous examination of any negligence in the conduct of the NEET-UG exam, even as minute as 0.001%. On Tuesday, the Court urged the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) to acknowledge any errors in the organization of the exam and take corrective measures instead of denying the issues.

This statement comes amid allegations of mismanagement and paper leaks in the medical entrance examination, which was taken by over 24 lakh candidates. Protests have erupted in various parts of the country, with students demanding justice. A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti expressed their concerns over students resorting to illegal and corrupt means to secure admission into MBBS courses, calling it “deleterious to society.”

The bench stressed the importance of timely action by authorities in such cases to protect the interests of hardworking students. “Even if there is 0.001% negligence on the part of anyone, it should be thoroughly dealt with. All these matters ought not to be treated as adversarial litigation,” the bench stated. They further added, “You must stand firm. If there is a mistake, then admit there is a mistake and say this is the action we will take. At least that inspires confidence in your performance. One can easily find out what has gone wrong.”
