Sharad Pawar Urges CM Shinde to Address Permanent Drought in Pune District
Pune, 17th June 2024: Senior leader Sharad Pawar has sent a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, urging for a resolution to the permanent drought situation in Baramati, along with Purandar, Indapur, and Daund talukas of Pune district.
The letter specifies that the meeting should be chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with officials from the Ministry of Soil and Water Conservation, Ministry for Water Supply & Sanitation, and public representatives invited.
The key question now is whether Chief Minister Shinde will convene this meeting in response to Sharad Pawar’s letter. Sharad Pawar, former Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare of India, has recently become active following the Lok Sabha results. Last week, he visited drought-stricken areas of Pune district, engaging with citizens in villages across Purandar, Indapur, Daund, and Baramati. Pawar has detailed these interactions in his letter to Chief Minister Shinde, urging prompt action in Mumbai to implement permanent measures.
After the Lok Sabha results, Sharad Pawar has intensified efforts to strengthen the foothold of the Vidhan Sabha in Baramati. He is scheduled to return to Baramati on Tuesday (19th June) following a three-day tour last week. This visit by Sharad Pawar is seen as a potentially increasing challenge for Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Discussions have already begun regarding fielding Ajit Pawar’s nephew, Yugendra Pawar, against him in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections from Baramati Assembly Constituency. Against this backdrop, Sharad Pawar’s upcoming visit holds significant importance.
