NTA Announces NEET 2024 Re-Examination Amid Supreme Court Hearing
New Delhi, 13th June 2024: In a significant development for students challenging the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG results, the National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the Supreme Court that the Centre has decided to cancel the NEET scorecards of 1,563 students who received grace marks. These students will have the option to retake the exam. The re-examination is scheduled for 23rd June, with revised results expected by 30th June. This announcement came in response to a plea challenging the NEET results in the Supreme Court.
According to the decision, students can choose to take the re-test. Those who opt out will have their original scores released without the grace marks. The overall NEET results and merit list will be updated accordingly.
The Supreme Court hearing on this matter is ongoing, and it is not yet clear if the court will approve the proposed solution. The decision is still pending, and the situation is evolving. The Supreme Court is also addressing other related pleas, including one from Physics Wallah CEO Alakh Pandey, who argued that awarding grace marks was arbitrary.
The hearing, which started at 10:30 am, involved a vacation bench with Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. Petitioners are also seeking a stay on NEET 2024 counselling.
