Cyclonic Winds and Low-Pressure Area to Bring Five Days of Rain to Maharashtra

Pune, 8th June 2024: The next five days will bring rain to Maharashtra, with heavy rainfall expected in the Western Ghats and along the coast from Sunday (9th June) to Tuesday (11th June), with a particular warning for Mumbai. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclonic wind conditions have developed in seven places across the country, and a low-pressure area has formed in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Goa. As a result, Maharashtra will experience increased rainfall over the next five days. An orange alert has been issued for districts along the coast and the Western Ghats.

Starting Sunday, heavy rain is anticipated in Mumbai for three days. The Bay of Bengal branch of the monsoon has weakened, halting its progress. However, the Arabian Sea provides a favorable environment for rapid monsoon advancement. The IMD predicts that monsoon rains will cover most parts of the state within the next four days.

Meanwhile, on Friday morning, Pune and its surrounding areas experienced an hour of rain, with cloudy skies throughout the morning. The decrease in maximum and minimum temperatures has created a chill in the air, but the IMD has not yet declared the arrival of the monsoon in Pune.

IMD’s retired scientist Manikrao Khule stated, “Rain will continue in Maharashtra for the next four to five days. From Sunday, heavy rain is expected in most places along the entire coast, Western Ghats, and South-Central Maharashtra, Including Mumbai.”
