Pune, 8th June 2024: Nighttime drone sightings are causing anxiety among residents in Pune rural areas. In response, the Pune rural police are submitting a proposal to the Pune district planning committee to purchase ‘anti-drone guns.’

Photos and videos of drones flying at night in various parts of Pune district have been circulating widely on social media. Over the past two weeks, drones seen in the eastern areas of the district have left residents uneasy, police said. Many residents have reported drone sightings in Khalad area of Purandar also.

To address the situation, the Pune rural police have undergone training with experts on using ‘anti-drone guns’ to disable these drones. This training aims to equip the police to take action against drones flying illegally, said Pune rural SP Pankaj Deshmukh.

The proposal to acquire two anti-drone guns from a private company will be submitted to the Pune district planning committee. Police have urged citizens not to believe or spread unverified information about the drones.
