Pune: Lawyer And Clerk Sentenced 5 Years Imprisonment For Accepting Rs 27 Lakh To Manage Judge And CBI Officers In Bribery Case

Pune, 7th June 2024: Today, the Spl. Judge, CBI, Cases, Pune has convicted the accused Adv. Hemant Thorat and Laxman Deshmukh for the offences punishable u/s 120-B IPC r/w Section 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

 

The accused Adv. Thorat and his Clerk Deshmukh have been found guilty for commission of offences u/s 120-B r/w Section 8 of the PC Act,1988. Both the accused were convicted for commission of offence punishable u/s 8 of PC Act, 1988 and sentenced to undergo R.I. of 5 years and fine of Rs. 1,00,000 each and in default to suffer imprisonment for 2 months.

 

Further, they have also been convicted for commission of offence punishable u/ s 120-B and sentenced to undergo imprisonment of 6 months and fine of Rs. 10,000/- each and in default to suffer imprisonment for 15 days.

 

This case No. RC 10(A)/2013 of CBI, ACB, Pune was registered U/s 8 of PC Act 1988 r/w 120-B IPC on 01.05.2013 on the basis of complaint dtd. 01.05.2013 filed by Sanjay V. Gokhale, the then Inspector, CBI, ACB, Pune. It was alleged that during the investigation of RC 04(A)/2013 registered by CBI, ACB, Pune against Vir Singh, the then Chief Loco Inspector, Daund, Pune and others. Vir Singh was arrested and during his custodial interrogation, he disclosed that an amount of Rs.27 lakhs (including Rs. 2 lakhs for arranging solvent sureties) was demanded and accepted by Adv. Thorat and his assistant Deshmukh for the purpose of influencing and inducing Judge of Anti-Corruption Court, Pune, Sr. CBI officers and Public Prosecutor of Pune to obtain favorable orders.

 

The case was investigated by CBI, ACB, Pune and after investigation, charge sheet was filed on 31.01.2014 against Adv. Hemant Thorat and Laxman Deshmukh u/Section 120-B IPC r/w Section 8 of P.C. Act, 1988.
