NEET Cut-Off Expected to Rise by 30 Marks Amid Perfect Scores
Pune, 7th June 2024: This year’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical admissions has seen a significant increase in high scores, raising the cut-off by approximately 30 marks compared to last year. A total of 67 students nationwide, including 11 from Maharashtra, achieved perfect scores of 720. Experts predict fierce competition for coveted seats in medical colleges.
Maharashtra offers around 9,000 medical seats, and the cut-off is expected to be around 620 marks, up from 588 last year. Although many students will be eligible for approximately 50,000 other seats in dental, physiotherapy, and paramedical courses, experts believe a significant number of students may retake NEET next year if they do not secure admission to their desired MBBS colleges.
One student who scored 599 marks and ranked 82,000 this year. “Last year, the same marks would have ranked around 30,000. I won’t qualify for any government medical college. This was my fourth attempt, and my dreams are shattered,” he lamented.
The District Entrance Examination Performance Enhancement and Research, a Pune-based NGO, reported that many candidates, despite scoring well, are considering retaking the exam next year.
The cut-off for MBBS seats in government medical colleges for general category students has been around 550-580 marks over the past three years. In Mumbai and Pune colleges, the cut-off is approximately 625-650 marks.
